Arama Mara’s slick incorporation of influences as wide as Debbie Harry, Billie Holliday, Outkast, and The Beatles first impressed us in Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too last year and we’ve been waiting to hear more ever since.

The versatile songstress is back at it, as her infectious tune “Don’t You Bring Me Down” was featured in the most recent episode of Hollywood Exes. The song plays while Andrea teaches her first master dance class in Los Angeles, and you can stream the whole episode above.

Bijou was not the only amazing artist in last week’s Love Games. Arama Mara’s unclassifiable gem “Don’t You Bring Me Down.”

The song plays when Leah is talking to Ryan and asking if he is mad at her for last night, but they hash it out, and it provides a nice counterbalance to the scene.

Formerly known as Arama Brown, Mara cites influences as far reaching as Billie Holliday, Outkast, The Beatles, and Debbie Harry, and it’s clear from her music that she truly is a hardcore devourer of pop culture, and is able to channel her influences in exciting new ways that defy genres. This is definitely a rising artist that you will want to say you knew first when she’s tearing up stages like MIA, Robyn or Santigold.
