Sometimes TV shows introduce us to great artists, and sometimes the reverse happens, and this is how we discovered 666 Park Avenue, courtesy of Lana Del Rey. We were tipped off that a remix of “Blue Jeans” (the Gesaffelstein Remix) was in the third episode of the show titled “The Dead Don’t Stay Dead,” and checked out the spooky goodness for ourselves, and now we may be hooked. You can stream the whole episode by clicking the picture above. Look out for the song playing in a scene at NYC Club where all the girls are dancing (naturally) and for those of you who were late to the party with this show as well, ABC still has all this season’s episodes up for streaming as well. The face of “it” girl Lana Del Rey is so omnipresent these days, that sometimes it’s easy to forget what made her so popular in the first place, and that’s her seductive tunes. One of our favorite LDR tracks is “Blue Jeans,” which has just been featured in a new ad for The University of Phoenix, which you can watch above.  Lana Del Rey’s new EP Paradise is due November 12, and will also feature a song co-written with Dan Heath, who collaborated with the sultry songstress on “Blue Jeans.”

Lana Del Rey, the newest darling/target girl of both the pop world and the indie blogosphere, recently was on Saturday Night Live. I’m sure if you read the Internet at all, you’ve seen the crazy amount of backlash, comments, etc about the performance, but we think this speaks more to the unfortunate growing “elitist snob” indie culture that attacks anything that crosses over to the mainstream, and we really, really dig “Blue Jeans” so here’s the video to the performance so you can judge for yourself.

A few other notes in support of Lana Del Rey, just because she comes from money and obviously has a lot of good management doesn’t mean she isn’t deserving. Unlike many pop artists, she is a songwriter, and much like Lady Gaga (another talented lightning rod who we support), at the very least she co-writes her songs and *gasp* actually makes some interesting pop music that takes influences like Madonna and even Portishead to new places. “Blue Jeans,” co-written with Daniel Heath (who helped Hans Zimmer with the Pirates of the Caribbean and Da Vinci Code scores) is a great example of this, so if you haven’t heard it yet, we suggest you give it a chance with an open mind.
