Veteran rockers French Kicks are pillars of reliability. It’s hard to believe that this band has been churning out their infectious brand of indie rock for over a decade, and even more impressive to see that they never really had a ‘down’ album.

“Sex Tourists” from their 2008 album Swimming, was recently featured in Seeking A Friend For The End of the World, the new film by Lorene Scafaria starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley.  If Scafaria’s name sounds familiar, it’s because she also brought us Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, another quirky/funny/heartfelt movie with great music. We can’t give away the scene the song is in without spoiling the movie a bit, but let’s just say that the song plays during an appropriate part of the movie (think the song title). Check out the trailer above and when you see it at theaters, be on the lookout for French Kicks.

Awhile back, we posted about the promising trailer for a new film starring Emma Roberts, The Art of Getting By. At the time, we noted how it was great that they used “Trial of the Century” by French Kicks and we hoped it would make it into the final film…well, we saw the movie this weekend, and it actually was used in the end credits! It would’ve been great to have it during a few of the scenes of the movies, but alas, we can’t be picky, and it was still so exciting to hear it again, as it is one of the most cathartic tunes released in the past decade.

Also, if you’re wondering about the movie, check it out! We saw this and Midnight in Paris this weekend, and both were really good in two totally different ways. Perhaps their different styles can best be explained by the music - The Art of Getting By featured the triumphant sound of one of modern indie rock’s finest in the French Kicks, while Midnight in Paris featured the quirky yet classic Cole Porter ballad, “Let’s Fall In Love.” Let’s just say both were great in their own ways, but since this is a blog that focuses on current music, we’ll leave you to your own devices to find the best version of “Let’s Fall In Love” to listen to.

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything out of French Kicks, but that doesn’t diminish how awesome the band is…plus, it made us even more excited when we heard “Trial of the Century” in the second half of the trailer for The Art of Getting By, a new romantic comedy starring Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore. The touching ballad sounds perfect in the trailer, and we can only hope to hear more French Kicks in the actual film, which hits theaters in June.
