NEW BAND ALERT : Vega Schenk, the chief songwriter in the much-loved Los Angeles band Castaneda, has a new electronic project called The Boom Circuits, that takes the new wave sounds of his other band and pushes them further into funky, dance-floor ready territory.

Although the band is brand new, they have already caught the attention of the folks at One Tree Hill, who used their song “The Pressure” in the latest episode, “The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get,” which also happens to be the last episode until the series resumes again in April. What’s more, the song provided the perfect playful backdrop to one of the funniest scenes of the episode, as Tommy gets Alex’s glasses and has chuck put them on. Check it out above to see what happens.

As promised, here’s the clip for the next montage in this week’s One Tree Hill, “Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace” aka the Thanksgiving episode. First, Brooke frantically tries to cook and sets the turkey on fire, then Sylvia uses the fire extinguisher to put it out…they show up at Haley’s house; Sylvia checks out of prison, exchanging some “pleasantries” with a prison staff member on her way out.

Throughout the whole scene, the song “Restoration” by The Acorn plays, much to our delight. The Acorn have been a staple of the indie scene since the early part of the century, laying down the mutli-layered harmonies and catchy tunes that have recently made bands like Fleet Foxes and Local Natives indie superheroes. “Restoration” is the perfect example of the band’s well-developed sound, and if you aren’t on this bandwagon yet, you will be after checking this out.

This week’s Thanksgiving episode of One Tree Hill had perhaps the best opening ten or so minutes of music that we’ve seen all year! The episode started with Wild Nothing’s “Summer Holiday” playing in it’s entirety as they prepare for Thanksgiving dinner. Wild Nothing’s dreamy, innocent and whimsical songs really made for the perfect Summer 2010 soundtrack, and “Summer Holiday” fits the Thanksgiving setting perfect, too. Of course, right after this, we get a montage featuring another favorite band of ours, The Acorn, but that we will address in our next post.
